Statistics and moron of the year

Nov 25, 10:55 AM

I decided to check the awstats for mark.geektyme.org just a few minutes ago. Yes, it’s 6:40am, no, I haven’t slept yet, yes, I’m extremely bored. All information is only in regards to this month.

I came across some interesting things. US and GB are at the top of the countries list. I’ve had a few visitors from Pakistan, and even some from United Arab Emirates. I looked at the visitors logs, and I recognized a few people in there. It’s also proof that I know far to well how systems are identified on the PSU network. Hi people from PSUHBG. I know who you are erie music plays. Most visits are under 30 seconds, which isn’t surprising – a few people are using my RSS feed, so that’s a quick visit atleast once a day. 53% are using Linux – you all rock. Someone visited my site from OS/2: what is wrong with you? That’s a dead OS my friend. Firefox is the top browser, but IE still comes in second. Get Firefox!

Now here’s the funny part. At the bottom of the stats are the top search keyphrases that brought people to my blog – from google, yahoo, or whatever. You gotta see these:

  1. inkscape – perfectly normal
  2. womens sexual peak – ooook…that’s odd
  3. www.xor.xxx – no folks, xor is not a pr0n site.
  4. spank those teens – ……. o_O
  5. cheerleaders talk about what they wear under their skirtsWhat? First off, that search string is way too long, and second, how the hell did my site come up in that search? Seriously? That’s sorta fucked up.

In an unrelated note, Qchem just linked me to this story and I’d like to officially nominate this guy for moron of the year award. “Yeah, it’s safe, here, let me light the fucker on fire and I’ll prove it!” Would this be considered arson?

  1. in response to your question, i don\'t really think that the moron of the year\'s actions amount to arson, simply because he lacked the required mental state. for the sad fact is that, despite his overwhelming stupidity, it was not his intent or purpose to burn his little nudie bar to the ground. now, from a hyper-technical point of view, arson may not be an \"intent-based\" crime, so that this would indeed be arson... but i\'m thinking that it\'s not.

    it\'s just plain stupid.
