As the blog name should have suggested to you, I'm a geek. My fortunate (or possibly unfortunate, depending on your point of view) venture into the geek world started at a young age - thanks largely to my Dad, who introduced me to such geek classics as the computer (a Tandy running MS-DOS at the time), Star Trek, Star Wars, and other staples of the stereotype. To say I was doomed from the start may be pessimistic, but my chances of escaping childhood "ungeekified" were not good.

I, in no way, see this as a bad thing. I was born with the heart of a geek, to defy it would be against my nature. When I was 14 or 15, my Dad got the internet. "OMG, TEH INTERWEBS!", thought I (ok, not really. there was none of that back then). That was the catalyst that started my use of a computer as a tool for gaining knowledge, rather than something to play games on (admittedly, I still play games ;) ). Within a year or two I had my own, ugly-as-sin (the standard back then) website hosted by Angelfire - long before Lycos bought it. I'm sure you can picture the cliché, animated .gif images splattered everywhere. It was a sad time for web design. Of course, at that time no one had thought much about design - the web was still quite young.

Fast forward several years, and my continued interest in websites has grown from simple HTML to PHP, SQL, CSS and creating my own images via GIMP and other tools. I've designed and built several personal sites that have come and gone, and through other interests I've gained enough knowledge to start and run a website from the ground up - code, database, design and administration. Of course, my geek interests don't stop there - from movies, to music, to history, to the latest and greatest tech - I like it all. The product of this passion for all things geek has now manifested itself, in one form anyways, here at Generic Geek Unit. I hope you enjoy - but keep in mind, I'm still a slacker ;)
